Brett and singer Meat Loaf own a production company together called Yellow Rose, Inc. They became good friends after meeting in 1991, and when Brett's daughter was born in 1994, the Cullens invited Meat and his wife, Leslie, to be the godparents.
In 1998, they were playing a round of golf together when Meat told Brett he wanted to start a production company. Brett thought it was a great idea. Meat Loaf suggested that they start a company together, and while Brett found it flattering, he did not have the equity at the time to throw into a company. Meat Loaf suggested they use his money and Brett's contacts -- and so the partnership began. They brought in their business manager as a financial officer and Brett and Meat became 50/50 creative partners in Yellow Rose, Inc., a name that reflects both men's Texas roots.
When asked what kind of projects they want to develop, Brett's answer is simple. "Things that we care about. Good writing. We have one script, "Flamenco," that we think is going to get produced. We have another script that's based on a true story about my father's exploits back in the 50s, when he was working in the oil business and got involved with the Blackfeet Indians in Montana. We have several things, but those are the two that we own right now and that we are hoping to get made. We have a stash of scripts that we want to do but those are the two we are getting the most heat on and that we think we're going to get the most attention from," he said. "And we have a couple of other things that I don't want to mention yet that might happen very soon," Brett added.
Brett and Meat Loaf intend to both act and produce in Yellow Rose productions. Neither one of them is ready to quit acting. "We primarily want to produce the projects and some we will act in and some we'll maybe just produce," Brett explained. "Also, because of Meat's music background, we want to create soundtracks for all the films we make -- or the ones that we are able to. But neither one of us wants to quit acting. We don't want to become producers and not be in front of the camera. We both want to still act, so we will try to do things that we can both act in. But like "Flamenco," there's really nothing in there for us. The other story, "Medicine Talk," the one about my father, I will be in, and Dennis Quaid will star in. It's a really great script," he added. "I just got it about two weeks ago. It just got finished."
According to Brett, when he and Meat are not busy running Yellow Rose, Inc., they can most likely be found on the golf course...
